IMG_1298.JPG “Childhood Memories,” 40″ x 60,” Diptych on stretched canvas.

Meditation and the creative act of making art for me is a way of life, a way of seeing, and a way of reaching and maintaining wakefulness and awareness.

Artist Jan Kirstein

This mixed media painting includes acrylic, water color, charcoal, graphite and colored pencil and is a replication of my memory of drawing on the walls of my bedroom as I stood in my baby bed. Because my parents had confiscated all of my drawing materials to preserve their walls, I resorted to drawing by scraping the wall with my hair barrette. This worked fairly well for me and I was able to accomplish my work of art despite the absence of materials at hand.”   Janis Kirstein

Janis, your work is so beautiful and inspiring!!! I also like your little story about your childhood! I must say I was more lucky as a child, as I was allowed to paint and scribble on every wall in my house 😉
